Orientation

I had my first day of orientation at my new job today. :) I started at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. I won't go in to any details about what I learned today (partly because I can't and partly because it would just bore you I'm sure) but I will tell you this:

I'm totally PSYCHED to be working there! I can't wait to get started officially and learn and do more!

I continue with a half day of orientation tomorrow and then I'll be done with hospital orientation and on to my department orientation. YAY! I can't wait!

Rock 'n' Roll!

I'm registered for the St. Louis Rock 'n' Roll half marathon!!! And I'm THRILLED!

Training doesn't technically start for a few more weeks but I decided to start my training early to add one week to the beginning and a few in the middle. So my training started today. I ran 1 mile. ;-) And it was tough. But I did it. And I did it without stopping. This is the fastest and hardest exercise (besides kickball and even that isn't fast) I've done since having Annabelle. I'm really excited and hope to start getting better and better. My goal is to beat my best half marathon time of 2 hours and 26 minutes. I think I can do it. My last goal was to beat 2 1/2 hours and I did it. This time I want to beat my previous time, but even more, I want to do it under 2 hours and 15 minutes. That's shaving 11 minutes off my time and my last time was average 11 minutes and 1 second miles. So I have to shave a whole mile off kind of. That will be tough. But I can do it.

The course looks AmAzInG!!! If you've EVER considered doing a half or full marathon, DO THIS ONE! It's touring all the major parks of South St. Louis (my hood) and I'm really looking forward to running it. It hits Tower Grove Park, Sublette Park, Tilles Park, Francis Park, Willmore Park, Carondelet Park, Lafayette Park, etc. It's going to be beautiful.

My sister, my mom, Nick and I are all registered. If you are interested, go to THIS WEBSITE and get registered! The cool thing about Rock 'n' Roll marathons (if you aren't aware of this racing series) is that they have different local bands playing at each mile. So by the time you stop hearing one band, you only have a little further to run and you are hearing another! It helps the time pass I'm sure and you don't have to stress about carrying an iPod!

Here's the course map:

I really think you should try it! Running is FUN! :)
