6 month check up

I took Dom to the dr. today. Here are his stats:

Height: 29" long
Weight: 21 lbs. 8 oz.

He is doing great. He is sitting up on his own (with limited falling over). His top gums are swollen and should be getting those top teeth in the next few weeks (key word "should"). We can start all number 2 foods. Or thicker food. So as soon as we're done with the fruits we can do meats.

So his development and everything is good. The appointment was not though. Dominick was upset the whole time. He cried before the doctor came in and after the doctor left and he cried SO hard for his shots. It actually made me cry and the told me to take my time and gave me a tissue. It was so sad.

But he's sleeping it off now and everything is good! I'm very happy that he's doing so well! Three more months until his next check-up!

NEWS!

I just got a phone call from Stella, our daycare lady. She called because she was so excited that Dominick has been sitting up by himself ALL MORNING! Yay! He's such a big boy! He's been sitting alone for a few minutes at a time, but nothing long and nothing to get too excited about. He kept falling over. But not today! All by himself, All morning!

I am so excited. Soon he'll be crawling! Such a big boy!

I also want to take the time to talk about how happy I am with our daycare. I love "Ms. Stella". She's so great with all the kids and does an amazing job. I can't even tell you how much it meant to me that she called me to tell me this news. She said she was just so excited that she couldn't wait until 4:30 to tell me. How cool is that? I love that she cares as much as I do and she knows that it means a lot to me and will take the time to call me and tell me. It made my day to hear that. I'm so happy!

I'll take some new pictures tonight and post them tomorrow!

Yearbook Yourself

While looking at Facebook, I some old fashioned year book pictures with my friend's faces on them. They were from a website (www.yearbookyourself.com) and you can put your face on an old yearbook picture. They are HILARIOUS. They actually look like real pictures. Here are a few I did.

Seriously...go to this website. You won't be disappointed!

Scared

So, I just decided to look up the route for the Lewis and Clark half marathon and now I'm terrified. Completely.

It's got a HUGE hill at the 7 mile mark (it's an entrance ramp to highway 370 and COMPLETELY uphill) and then from about 9.5 miles to 12.5 miles it's one long uphill. SCARY!

I've been training and I think I can do this. But I'm really scared. That's a lot of hills.

I seriously think that I need 13 people to volunteer to come and cheer me on so I can see a new person at each mile marker and keep my spirits and confidence up!

Any volunteers?? :)

New wedding ring :D

So, I've been afraid to wear my wedding ring lately. The diamond of my wedding ring sticks up pretty high and I've scratched Dominick a few times on accident. I haven't been wearing anything and I hate that. Since I didn't want to spend a lot of money on anything and I wouldn't ask Nick to buy me another ring (the first one was perfect so I can't ask for another one!) I went ahead and bought a fake ring on www.overstock.com. I did this when I was pregnant, too, and was afraid my real ring wouldn't fit.

I bought a band with two rows of "diamonds" in the band. It came today. I love it! I took a picture with my phone but I'm not sure how well you can see it. It's perfect. It's flat so I can't scratch Dom with it and it looks real and nice. Now everyone who sees my left hand will know I'm married. ;-)

Isn't it nice?? Nick keeps wondering why he spent so much on a real ring when I either don't wear it or I wear a fake one! Haha. Soon I'll be wearing it again though. No worries.

Pears!

We started pears for breakfast this morning! Dommie loved them. He's been eating so much more solids that he's not eating as much formula, but still getting enough, don't worry.

I just can't believe how big he's getting! We've done all the veggies, starting fruits, and in about a month or so we'll be starting meats! Oh my goodness. Also, he's got his two bottom, front teeth! So it's only a matter of time before he starts eating "real" food and not the mushy food. I can't beleive it.

After the pears, we'll move on to bananas and prunes etc. I'm very excited for my little boy! He's doing such a great job.

Holy Cow!

I've already posted this on my Facebook page but I seriously can't believe it!

Dominick is 6 months old today!!! WOW!

It seems like it flew by. The other day I sat at my computer and re-read all my blog posts from December and January. It made me cry. I was thinking about the end of my pregnancy. Wishing for Dom to be here. Then worrying since I had early contractions and was put on bed rest. And then labor and my birth story. I was just crying at my computer. I'm so happy he's here. And healthy. And gorgeous. And perfect!

Dominick is starting to do so many things now that it's amazing. He's not crawling yet but he gets up on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth like he's ready to go. It's only a matter of time before he's off! He has two teeth now! Both of his bottom teeth are in and very handsome. :-) He's getting closer to sitting up. Not quite there yet but getting closer. We are almost ready to switch out the car seat. He's getting too heavy and long for the pumpkin seat. He's just getting so big!

We are starting fruits now too. We've accomplished all the veggies! Well, at least carrots, green beans, peas, squash and sweet potatoes. I could've started fruits awhile back but I didn't. So we are going to start those tomorrow.

So exciting!

And another thing that makes it so scary is that Nick and I would like our kids to be about 2 years apart. We are thinking about trying to get pregnant again when Dom is a little over a year. We have no idea how hard it will be since last time it took 14 months and medical intervention. Hopefully we don't have those problems again but we don't want to go through all that waiting again. So that means that in about 9 months, we're going to start trying...that alone is SCARY!

My goodness, time flies...Happy half birthday Dom!

Arkansas Trip!

Ok, now that I have a free second, I'll write about our trip. First off, it was AWESOME! Just throwing that out there. Now some details.

Michelle got to our house at 9 am on Friday morning. We packed up the car and dropped Dom off at daycare, and then hit the road. We stopped for breakfast/lunch around 11 and then back on the road. We got to Jim and Leslie's around 3:30. Nick and Jimbo went golfing while Leslie, Michelle and I went to Target. We just hung out for the afternoon until the other car arrived. Lauren, Brian, Ashley and Luke got there in the early evening and we got ready to go out! We went to a bar and then did a little bar hopping. Here's a picture of the girls ready to go out!

It was a fun night and we were out late. I didn't go to bed until about 2:30 am! I haven't done that in a LONG time! We had fun though. Saturday was an early day. Michelle, Ashley and I got up, made coffee and went for a long walk. I needed to do this for my half marathon training and they were nice enough to come along. After we got back we made breakfast. We hung out for a bit and then packed up and went to Beaver Lake. We rented a boat for the day and had an AWESOME time. I got very sun burnt on my shoulders and back though. It was rough. Here are a few pics from the boat!

Saturday night we just stayed in. We made hamburgers and relaxed at the house. We tried playing a few games, but that didn't work so well. We ended up doing a Wii Tennis Tournament. Nick won. Go Nick!

I went to bed early Saturday night because I still felt like I was on a boat! The whole room was swaying like we were still on the water. I went to bed by midnight. I know that doesn't sound early but some of us were up until 5 am!

Sunday morning was rough. I felt so burnt. The boys all went golfing and us girls hung out around the house. We did some laundry and ate breakfast. Then I had to do my run. I couldn't put it off any longer. I had to do 5 miles. I didn't know how far 5 miles was from Jim's house so I just started my stop watch and ran for 50 minutes. I measured what I ran later and it was about 4 1/2 miles so I did pretty good!

We took one last picture before we left of us as a group. Before you look at the picture, I would like to emphasize that I had just got done running. Well like 30 minutes earlier. My skin gets very irritated when I run outside. It gets SUPER red. I am not THAT burnt. My shoulders look like that and that is from the sun but my face actually isn't sun burnt. It's just THAT red from running! :D

And that was our trip! It was amazing.

I missed Dommie so much but I have the best friends ever and had a fantastic time.

Fourth of July pictures

I mentioned in an earlier post how wet the day was on the fourth of July. It was crazy. Nick, Angela, Andrew, Abbie and I all ran in a race called the Macklind Avenue Mile. I already said all this. Anyway, here are our "before" and "after" pictures of that race. You can really tell how wet we got by looking at Abbie's grey shirt. It was SOPPING wet!

Nice, huh?? :-)

Pictures

Can you see that tooth??

My Momma and Cecilia and My Grandma and Dommie

My parents with Cecilia and Dominick

Dominick really likes to "lap up" the salt water in my parents pool. Like he's a little puppy! We try to stop him but he squeezes a lick in every once in awhile!

And last but NOT least, Dommie and his Nani. Nick's mom got Dom a Boston Red Sox hat while she was in Boston. He was wearing it backwards to look like his Daddy.

Celebrity Softball Game

I had to post this video. It's the ESPN highlights of the All Star Celebrity Softball game that happened here is St. Louis on Sunday night. Nelly makes an AWESOME catch and Shawn Johnson does a nice flip to first base.

Must see! ;-)

Lovin' St. Louis!

For those of you who knew me when I was younger, you'd probably heard me say that when I grew up, I was going to live in a BIG city! That was my dream. I'd gone to Atlanta with my Momma when I was in 6th grade and I was hooked to big city life! I wanted to move to Atlanta, or Chicago, or New York. Walk everywhere, or hail a taxi, or take the "L". Big city life. I was so excited to be a part of the hustle and bustle of a big city.

But things change.

I realized my senior year of high school that I didn't want to go away for college. I needed my parents close. I was so used to my my parents being at EVERY one of my basketball games (Momma was my biggest fan and Dad was my favorite coach). I needed both of them close. So I chose to go to Fontbonne University here is St. Louis and stay close. Because of that, I got a job in St. Louis for the summers and met my future husband, Nick. After college, Nick and I got married and Nick had (and still does) a good union job here in St. Louis so my dreams of moving away for a few years were halted.

Not that I was upset. Not by any means. I wanted to stay here and start our life together and our eventual family. But part of me still missed the idea of living in a big city.

I work in North St. Louis right now. Since I live in South St. Louis, I drive through downtown to get to work. The last few days as I was driving through downtown, I looked at it completely differently. I realized that we do have a "big" city. It's not huge. Not like Atlanta or New York. But it's something. Everyday I drive and see Busch Stadium, and the Arch, and the Riverfront, and Lumiere. It's beautiful.

And South City is beautiful. Nick and I can walk to the Hill for dinner. We can walk to Ted Drewes for dessert. It's perfect for me. For us.

And what perfect timing for me to realize how amazing our "big" city really is! Last night, (I know this will sound corny but...) I felt such pride watching the Home Run Derby on ESPN at our stadium! It was so neat to see all the fans and the players and see our Arch in the background. It was awesome to watch the celebrity game and see all the actors/actresses/musicians/professional athletes that came from St. Louis and the surrounding areas. I love our city!

I'm excited to watch the All Star game tonight. I hope the National League wins this one (it's about time right?) and maybe we'll be lucky enough to go to the World Series again and get home field advantage. Maybe I'll even be lucky enough to go to another World Series championship game! (probably not - but a girl can dream). My point is, St. Louis is a pretty cool place to live and I'm glad my life turned out the way it did. I'm very happy to call St. Louis home with my wonderful husband, Nick, and my perfect son, Dominick.

Prayers needed

A girl that I am friends with on ovusoft.com needs some prayers. I'm passing on Elizabeth's story so we can get as many prayers as possible!

Here is her story:
"I've had a very stressful weekend. I please ask for your prayers! My oldest brother (the one that just got back from serving over seas) started throwing up blood on Friday evening. When my SIL got home she told him they were going to the ER, but my brother wanted to take a quick shower first. He ended up falling and passing out while in the shower and my SIL said he was acting like he was having a seizure. She couldn't wake him and called 911 and he was rushed to the hospital. When he got to the hospital his BP was 70/50.

They determined that he had a bleeding ulcer, and gave him medicine to help clot his blood, but over the last 2 days his blood count has continued to decline. They have had to give him over 5 units of blood. With the help of the nurses, he got up yesterday to take a shower, but passed out again. He now has orders that he can't get out of bed or even sit up. He has to lay flat, that's the only way they can keep his blood pressure up.

They went in for the second time last night with a camera to double check and make sure they hadn't missed anything, and the ulcer was still bleeding. They tried to carterize it to stop it from bleeding, and the doctors said that it normally works about 85% of the time.

This morning his blood count had gone up a little. He's still not out of the woods by any means, but at least it's going in the right direction. My mom is on her way to North Dakota today to help take care of the kids. Please pray for a full recovery for my brother as well as safe travel for my mom. I'll keep you updated."

That was yesterday.

Here is today's update:

"Update: We just got his last blood count back and it's going back down again. They're hanging another unit of blood."

Please send many prayers her way. Thanks.

Michael Jackson Tribute

A friend of mine told me about this website last night. I just looked it up. It's kind of interesting. The website is www.eternalmoonwalk.com (or just click HERE) and it's just that! It's playing a moonwalk, 24/7. You can submit your own moonwalk!

Check it out if you have a second!

I'm not very political, but...

I really hate getting all the emails and seeing all the pictures of President Obama "checking out a girl's butt" in France. I found this video that clears up what was actually happening. I just feel bad for the guy for all these pictures. He was trying to help someone down the stairs! However, check out the French President. He's not so discreet!

I spy...

a tooth!!

It hasn't completely broken through Dom's gums yet but it is definitely there and it is definitely a tooth! Yay!

It will probably come through tomorrow or so. I tried taking a picture this morning but I was by myself and me trying to hold him and take a picture with my hand in his mouth...didn't work so well!

Running Updates

I haven't posted too much about my training for the half marathon...As some of you know, my sister and my friend, Abbie, are both training for the half marathon with me. We started a blog that is a private blog and only the three of us are members. It's a good place to keep up with each other and keep each other motivated (I need it motivation a LOT) and Angie gives us good tips about running since she's already done 5 FULL marathons. I do a lot of my running posts there, so I don't bore you guys too much.

But as I am about to finish my 3rd week of training, I thought I'd give you an update.

Training is going pretty good. I'm not going to lie and say great, because I've been struggling a little bit. I have good days and bad days. Tuesday was a bad day. A very bad day. I was supposed to run 3 1/2 miles and I only did 2 1/2...and those 2 1/2 were a struggle. A very serious struggle. I walked part of it and felt miserable the whole time. And then felt miserable because I felt like a failure! That was Tuesday.

Today has been a GREAT day! I got up at 5 am and went running. I was supposed to do 3 1/2 again. I did 3.75 easily. Ran the whole time and felt pretty good. Then I got home and did the dishes from the other night (we had company so there were a TON). Then I made Nick a lunch and a snack for work today. Then I took a shower and got Dom's bottle ready. And fed him. And got ready for work. And came to work....I feel like Super Woman today!

This week's training will end on Sunday with a 5 mile run. I'm a little nervous about that because I haven't ran 5 miles straight since before being pregnant with Dom. But I can do it....I can do it....I can do it....

Next week is the same training as this week, and then the week after that gets tough. 4 miles both Tuesday and Thursday and then 6 on Sunday. But it's worth it. I need to be able to do all this if I expect myself to run 13.1 miles straight!

I added a countdown ticker to my blog. I like being able to see when the race will come. How much longer I have to train and get myself in the best shape I can be in.

Wish me luck!

Ring Bearer

Dom is supposed to be in a wedding in September. I'm very excited about it. It's a doubly special wedding for me. One of my best friends, Michelle, is marrying my cousin, Adam. They would like Dom to be one of the ring bearers in the wedding along with Michelle's niece Olivia. The older flower girl and ring bearer will pull the little ones in a decorated wagon.

Well Michelle and I were talking on Monday night and Michelle said she'd like Dom to have an outfit with a little bow tie if we could get it. I said yes, of course. He'll look so handsome! Well today I started looking at baby tuxedos and here's what I found...

How cute will Dom look in that??? So excited....

Happy Birthday Nick!!

Also, my friend Ashley had a great Wordless Wednesdays. Click on her link to the right!

Thanks Ash!!

Dommie Sleeping

Yes, I wrote Dommie. I started calling him that and now it has stuck. I never call him Dominick anymore. It's always Dom or Dommie. My little Angel.

Anyway, I was clearing out some pictures on my phone and I had a few of him sleeping and it the funny ways he sleeps. I had to post them because they are so cute.

This first one is him sleeping with his feet right under his belly and his butt up in the air! He sleeps like this a lot.

These next two I just took last night. If you remember back to my ultrasound pictures, Dom always had his ankles crossed. All the time. When he was little and I would feed him, he would instinctively cross his ankles. Well, he hasn't done it in awhile, but when I went in to check on him last night before turning in for the night, this is how he was sleeping. Isn't he adorable!!??!!

My goodness he's too cute...

American Film Institute's 10 Top 10

After reading BK's blog about wanting to watch all 100 movies in the AFI's top 100, I decided that sounded like a good idea. So I looked up the Top 100 movies. I also looked up the 10 Top 10 movies. The wettest day ever...

was Saturday.

Angela, Andrew, Abbie, Nick and I all ran the Macklind Avenue Mile. It was only a mile but it was hard! Everyone was running so hard and I felt like I had to keep up! We got drenched. We were so wet that I felt like I was running with an extra 10 lbs. We still did pretty good.

The race was "chipped" so we had a chip on our shoe that recorded our exact times. Here is how we finished:

Nick finished in 7 minutes and 8 seconds, which was 226th place and 39th place in his age group.

Andrew finished in 7 minutes and 22 seconds, which was 238th and 20th in his age group.

Angela finished in 6 minutes and 50 seconds, which was 62nd and 9th in her age group.

Abbie finished in 7 minutes and 18 seconds, which was 87th and 27th in her age group.

I finished in 7 minutes and 53 seconds, which was 123rd and 33rd in my age group.

I was the slowest, but I'm ok with that. I normally run a mile in 10 minutes so I was happy with those results.

I have a few pictures of me, Abbie and Nick before and after the race. It's crazy how wet we got. I actually got out my shoes for my run today and they were still very wet.

Today we have officially finished week 2 of our training. The half marathon is in 10 weeks. Scary!!
