Dommie's First Hair Cut

I just made the appointment! Nick's been wanting to cut his hair for almost 6 months already and I finally gave in and made the appointment. We're going to get his first cut on Saturday.

My friend, Crystal, told me about a place called The Hairy Elephant (click here for their website) so we decided to try them out. It's a children's hair salon and all they do is cut kids hair. The chairs are special - fire trucks, airplanes, etc. and each hair station has a tv to play movies or playstation for the kids so they are distracted and get the best hair cut possible.

I'm sad that he is so big and needs a hair cut but I'm excited to see what this place is all about! I'll definitely post pictures next week!

Bath Time!

Dommie LOVES bath time. It is his favorite time of day I think. He gets in and just starts splashing and playing with his toys. I haven't taken a picture of him in the bath since his first "big boy" bath when I was with him in the tub. But here are a few pictures of him from my phone that I took of him last week in the tub.

Look how happy he is!

My goodness, he's cute. ;-)

Dommie's new chair

One of the blogs I follow (Whitney) had a chair she got for her son and I thought it was so adorable. (Did that sentence just make sense??)

Anyway, I asked her where she got it and she told me it was Pottery Barn Kids. Dom's Godfather, Mike, had ordered Dommie's birthday present and it hadn't come yet so he decided to get Dom the chair and save his present for Christmas.

Dom LOVES his chair! Here are a few pictures of him in his chair (and a pic of another one in our house who loves his chair!).

The pics are a little fuzzy since they are with my phone but you get the idea!

Thanks Uncle Mike!!

13 Months

My little man is 13 months old today. I still can't believe it. How is he so old? How can he be so big??

He's getting funnier every day. He talks now. Not always in clear words but he talks. His BEST words are:

Hi
Kitty
Dog
Sippy
Cici (what we call cousin Cecilia)
Mama
Dada

It's just amazing to me how grown up he seems. He's getting smarter and smarter every day too. He can now climb up a stair, and then climb back down (instead of the scary falling backwards we used to do no matter what step we were on), he can get down off the couch without hurting himself, he plays with toys I didn't think he could play with yet. He's just amazing.

And walking?? Please! We RUN everywhere now. So fast that if you don't watch him like a hawk, he'll get away from you and you can't find him. Baby gates are Mommy's best friend!

He is one of the two loves of my life and I feel so blessed to have him (even if I do have the baby fever!).

Can you believe he went from this:

To this:

???

Happy 13 month Birthday Dom!!

FINALLY!

I joined the Y! Thank goodness.

I joined last night after work and went this morning for my first official day of using it.

My alarm went off at 5am, I got up, got dressed, brushed my teeth, grabbed an apple and a bottle of water and headed to the Y. My sister met me there and we ran on the treadmills, side by side. She did great, running 4+ miles, and running the whole time. I did ok, running/walking 3+ miles (more running than walking though!).

I really don't know if I'll be anywhere near ready for this half marathon in April, but I'll still running and working out and hopefully still losing weight.

That's all I can ask for right? We're meeting again tomorrow. I really really hope this shows up on the scale on Saturday's weigh in!!

BaBy FeVeR!!

So I have caught the bug! I keep hearing of people being pregnant or seeing their new babies and I have the fever! I want another baby!

Nick says we have to wait because he HAS to go skiing in January of 2011. So I can't have a baby until at least March or April. I guess I can wait that long! :-)

This past Saturday, I went to visit my newest cousin, Baby Landon, and I got to hold him for two HOURS! He was SO precious and perfect!!

Another part of the reason I have the fever, is one of my BESTEST friends is PREGNANT! I'm so happy for her and can't wait to hear all about the ultrasounds, etc.

I follow her blog, you can follow her pregnancy too, if you'd like. She's a part of my blog list on the right, under Ashley Wilson.

I don't have a picture of us together (weird) but here is a picture of her in another friend's wedding a few months ago.

I'm SO happy for her.

Congrats Ashley and Luke!!

Weekly Weigh in

So I had my first weigh in being back on plan. It went great! I lost 3.2 lbs.

I'm newly motivated and it's going great so far. Nick and I are joining the Y tonight. We tried to last night at 5:05 and they stop doing new registrations at 5...GRRR. I'm going to register tonight on my way home from work.

My sister and I are meeting up tomorrow morning at 5:30 to run together and work out.

I also joined a challenge on weight watchers online. It's a biggest loser challenge. We "meet" each week and do our weekly weigh in and calculate the percentage of weight lost. We also have challenges and have to record our activity minutes to win challenges. I'm pretty excited about it.

The challenge starts on Monday, March 1. I have 19.2 lbs to lose and I'm hoping this helps me to lose it! I CAN'T WAIT to be at my goal weight!!

Another Great Dinner

I seriously am loving weight watchers online. I love their meals. And they are pretty easy to make.

Last night I made a bacon and swiss quiche and some butternut squash "fries". It was so good! And I ate a TON and stayed under my points. Can't get much better than that!

Nick didn't love it as much, again. But he doesn't even give weight watchers a chance. He got Noodles last night for dinner.

Here we are saving money by cooking every meal at home, and supposed to be losing weight, and we're spending double because Nick eats out too. We'll need to fix this....

Meatless dinner

So last night I made my Baked Eggs...I was right. I loved it and Nick, well...didn't hate it, but it's not one of his favorites.

I'm posting the recipes in case you want to try it or are just curious as to what it is.

Baked Eggs Italian Style:
Ingredients:
4 cups marinara sauce (store bought)
8 eggs
Fresh Basil, chopped (not dried)
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes

Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 350*
2) Pour marinara sauce into a 13 x 9 glass baking dish and spread some basil on top of sauce.
3) Make 8 indentions into the sauce, and slip an egg into each one, being careful not to break the yolk.
4) Spread the cheese on top of the eggs, and sprinkle the Red Pepper Flakes on top of the cheese
5) Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the whites are set and the yolks are still *slightly* runny.

Each egg with 1/3 cup of sauce is 5 points.

Pepperoni Potato Skins:
Ingredients:
2 large baked potatoes, already baked and cooled
1/3 cup pizza sauce
chopped pepperoni
Reduced Fat Cheddar Cheese

Directions:
1) Preheat Oven to 425*
2) Cut the potatoes into quarters and remove 1/2 to 2/3 of the potato. Keep the skins in a curled shape if possible. Place skins on a cookie sheet.
3) Spread the pizza sauce evenly on each skin.
4) Put pepperoni on the sauce (We left some without pepperoni since yesterday was a no meat day and I'm following the rules)
5) Cover with a little cheese.
6) Bake at 425* for 6-8 minutes, or until cheese is melted and skins are slightly hard.

Two skins equals one serving and each serving is 4 points.

Nick liked the skins a lot, and ate the egg, but wasn't a huge fan. He actually went to St. Louis Bread Company while I was at mass!

Tonight is Bacon Swiss Quiche and Au Gratin Potatoes. Yum!

Mass

So I did it! I went to mass last night for Ash Wednesday. I'm so proud of myself. I know a lot of people who read my blog are religious and take their babies to mass every Sunday so this probably doesn't seem like a big deal to you. But it is a big deal to me.

I didn't go to mass much when I was in college. Finally, for the first time it wasn't required. I told myself that I'd go when I got married. Well I got engaged my Junior year of college and planned my wedding for the fall after I graduated. 'I'll go to mass leading up to our wedding' is what I told myself. But then that didn't really happen. So I thought once we got married, I'd go. Well that didn't happen. Then we started trying to get pregnant and I started making "deals" with God. 'I'll go to church every week if I get pregnant' and so on and so on. Well I finally got pregnant and I did go to to church. But that only lasted a few months. Then I told myself, I'll go to church with Dominick and then I'll go every week with him and it will be perfect...

And here we are. Almost a YEAR after his baptism and we went to mass for the first time since. And now I'm making the true commitment. No more telling myself I'll go and then making excuses as to why I can't. We're going every week and that's that.

I realize that I can't tell Dominick he HAS to go if he grows up in a family where his parents don't go. That's not going to work.

And you know what? I enjoyed mass last night! It's much more interesting as an adult and actually listening to the readings, listening to the homilies, and thinking about what the whole mass is about.

And Dominick was an ANGEL! He had one bad spot during mass. He started crying during the gospel and we spent the homily in the cry room, but went back in for ashes and never left our seats again. It was great. I was so proud of him.

Now if we can make mass a habit, he'll be an angel every Sunday.

Nick didn't go and at this point he refuses to go...I'm still working on it. But me and Dommie going for now is a step in the right direction. And we're not looking back.

Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. I've never been a particularly religious person, but I'd like to be. So this Lenten season I've decided that I'm going to make a commitment to go to church every Sunday with Dominick. We're also going to Ash Wednesday mass tonight.

I hope I can stick with it because I'd really to go every Sunday and have Dominick grow up in the Catholic Faith. He's already baptized and he'll go to Catholic School so I think this is important for us.

Now if I could just convince Nick to come with us...

Day 1 Reflection

This day 1 of weight watchers was a lot harder than when I started in October. I have no idea why. I was hungry a LOT last night. I kept munching on things I knew I shouldn't.

All in all though, I think it went ok. I stayed on plan with my points for the entire day at work and the beginning of the night. I just strayed a little at the end...

I made a recipe from www.weightwatchers.com for broccoli cheese soup. It was delicious! Some of the recipes are so good, you don't realize that they are "diet". Tomorrow night I'm trying a recipe that I'm pretty sure Nick will hate...It's eggs Italian style. I'm pretty sure this will be a disaster for him. But I'll probably love it.

I'll let you know what he says!

On another note, I'm joining the YMCA this week, for real this time. My sister and I have made a pact to meet up Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Y to run together. She is still planning on running the half marathon, whereas I'm still planning on walking/jogging it with my mom. But I should still be in shape for it. So we'll see how that goes.

A lot is going on right now, hopefully my body will catch up, lose those last 20 lbs, and get me in the shape I want!

Starting Again

So I've made a decision. I need to get back into Weight Watchers.

I've been such a slacker lately! I haven't gone to as many meetings. I haven't been tracking what I eat. I haven't even been caring about what I eat. And I can notice.

My pants are starting to get tight again, and my shirts don't look as good as they were looking. But the really weird thing is that I've only gained back 2 lbs. in over 2 months.

The last time I really thought about weight watchers and was putting some major effort into it, was back in the beginning of December. Right before I left on vacation for Disney. And I actually hadn't done much since then at all.

But now I'm back on track.

- I went grocery shopping this morning to get myself lunches and snacks for work, so I have NO excuses.
- I logged into weightwatchers.com and entered my most recent weight and entered my breakfast.
- I looked up some recipes so I can make good meals for dinners this week.

I'm back on track. Hopefully it will show up on the scale this Saturday.

Stay posted!

MIA

Sorry I've been MIA for so long! A lot has been going on in my life. Nothing exciting or anything, just busy a lot.

Quick post to update, we had our Superbowl Party yesterday. I think it was a success. It wasn't a lot of people but it was a lot of fun. We played a lot of Superbowl Party Games I'd never done before. And, Dominick won the money for the 1st quarter score! Long story...

Anyway, we had a good time and I hope our guests had a good time too! It would have been better if the Colts won, but I'm happy for New Orleans.

We'll have to have another party next year. I really loved getting ready for it!

Now, after I finish the clean up from the party that I certainly didn't do last night, I'm looking forward to a nice break from having to do ANYTHING!

My friend, Ashley, sent me this video in an email.

It was too cute not to share. Enjoy!
