New Carpet!!

Nick and I decided to do something crazy recently. We decided to completely redo our already finished basement. We are in the process of doing that this week. We ordered new carpet (which is being installed as I type this!) and we are getting tile for part of the basement. I'm re-painting the entire basement. I'm also taking pictures around St. Louis to frame and hang around the basement. Nick is FINALLY going to finish the entertainment unit in the wall. And finally we are going to Forshaw to get a fireplace cover to make it "baby proof".

We have so many small projects we want to get done all for Dominick's baptism, which had seemed so far away and is now in less than a month!

I can't wait until everything is finished and I can post some pictures!!

The Zoo!

Today I met my Mom and Cecilia at the Zoo. It was a lot of fun. We saw monkeys, zebras, camels, lions, and a peacock! Cecilia rode on the carousel with Mom and loved it. Dominick slept almost the whole time but he woke up for a bit at the end. Here are some pictures:

It was a great time and I can't wait to go again!

NCAA After Round 2

So after round 2 I moved up! I am now tied for second place. There's still a lot of basketball left so I'm not getting too cocky yet, but second is good.

Here are our standings:
Dad - 70
Meg and Nick - 65
Angela - 60
Mom - 57
Andrew - 54

It's still a pretty close tournament and we all have such different teams that any of us can still lose. But that's part of the fun!

And Mizzou beat Marquette! So that's always good news. Now let's just hope they can beat Memphis! Go Tigers!

Happy Birthday Dom, again!

So Dominick is two months old today!! I can't believe it's been two months. He's getting so big. The last few days he's been trying so hard to roll over from his back to his tummy. We're getting close but his other arm keeps getting in the way. Hopefully we'll figure this out soon and I can post about his accomplishments soon!

We are getting ready to go for a walk and meet up with his cousin Cecilia (and Aunt Angela and Uncle Andrew) so I'll post more later. Along with the updates from the NCAA brackets. I'm moving up in the ranks! Thank goodness for Arizona's win yesterday!!

Baby Sale

So Friday night, Crystal Mueller and I went to the baby consignment sale at St. Elizabeth's. While we were at the sale, all the boys hung out together. Greg and Bennett and Nick and Dominick. Crystal and I got some great stuff!

I ended up getting a bag of new bottles for $5.00, a bag of sippy cups for $3.00, a "Snugli" (which is like a Baby Bjorn) for $5.00, a car seat mirror for $2.00, and a TON of clothes for Dom. I also got a cheap high chair for my sister. I only spent $65.00 total for all that stuff! It was great.

Crystal got even more great deals than I did! She got a Baby Bjorn, a Diaper Champ, an Activity Mat, Toys, Baby Einstein videos and CDs, a huge thing of Jumbo Legos, and a ton of clothes. That's a bunch of good deals!

Unfortunately, while we were gone Dominick wasn't being a good boy. He was fussing the whole time we were gone. When we got back I was able to get him to calm down for a bit, but not long. Finally we had to leave because he was so crabby and I was afraid he was going to wake up Bennett who was being such a good baby! I guess he cried so much that night because he was out like a light when we got home and gave us about 6 straight hours of sleep after that. Poor baby.

I think it was a fluke though because yesterday he was a good baby again and slept through the night and so far today he's been good. So let's all say a quick prayer that it was just a fluke and he's not going to be that fussy again for a long time! :-)

After Round One and Day One of Round Two

After round 1 in the NCAA tournament, here are my family's standings.

First Place: Nick with 26
Second Place: Dad with 25
Third Place: Mom with 24 and Angela with 24
Fifth Place: Meg with 23
Sixth Place: Andrew with 21

Yesterday with the first day of round 2. The standings shifted slightly.

First Place: Dad with 49 and Nick with 49
Third Place: Meg with 44
Fourth Place: Angela with 42
Fifth Place: Mom with 39 and Andrew with 39

So it's getting close! And I've moved up in the rankings!!

Keep your fingers crossed that I continue to get some wins. Go Mizzou!!

Day One Standings

Well I did ok yesterday in my bracket. I am currently in fourth place (out of six) which is fine. In our family we all fill out a bracket. You get points for the correct picks. The further rounds get higher points. In doesn't matter in you come in first, second, third place, etc. You just can't come in last place. Whoever comes in last place has to buy the whole family dinner (or make it). I lost last year. I don't plan on doing it again.

Hopefully I'll move up in the ranks after Day two!!

Smiles

I love that Dominick is at the age where he smiles for real. He smiles because he's happy and not because he's working something up! ;-)

When I go in to his room in the morning, he smiles at me and it's so cute. He's ticklish too so we have fun with that. He's just such a happy baby (usually) and I love seeing him smile!

Here's a picture of him smiling at his mommy!

My Picks

I scanned my bracket to post it, but since I wrote it in green pen and my scanner is a color scanner, it might not show up too well. If this is the case, I'll re-write it and re-scan it.

But here are my picks:

Ok, so it's hard to read, even though I traced the teams in black, but if you click on the bracket, it will make it bigger and you can actually see them. I doubt anyone really wants to look, but I want proof posted if by some chance I pick all the correct picks! ;-)

SLEEP!!

Dominick is doing AWESOME! Last night I fed Dom at 10:30 and put him down about 11:15 p.m. He did so great that I made Nick go check on him because I got worried! He slept until 6:30 this morning!! That was 7 hours and 15 minutes of sleep!!!

Thank goodness! I hope he does it again tonight!

March Madness!!

I am so excited that it's time for March Madness!! And I'm so excited that I'm home to watch it all! The excitement starts tomorrow at 11:20 a.m. Central and Dominick and I are getting hyped up to watch it all!!

I've already made my picks and I'm going to try and scan it and post it on my blog and I'll even try to post updates on how good/bad I'm doing. I'm probably going to be pretty bad. I did what my sister always does...I picked with my heart and not my head. I have Mizzou and Syracuse in the Final Four and I'm not sure if they can do that. But I'm hoping!!

Go Tigers!! Dominick is a big Mizzou fan. Here's a pic of him in his outfit with his Uncle Andrew and cousin Cecilia:

And here's one of him in his outfit with his Godmother, Kate:

Go Tigers!!

Ziploc Omelet

Has anyone gotten this email lately?? I got an email from my friend Ashley that talked about a ziploc omelet and it had pictures on how to make an omelet in a ziploc bag. It looked good but I'm always skeptical about forwards. So I decided to try this one out. It actually turned out SO good! So here's pictures of my experiment along with the recipe if you want to try it out.

First you have to have quart sized ziploc bags. I don't know if it really matters...but I don't like to deviate too much from recipes so we used quart sized bags. Next put a pot of water on the stove and bring it to a "rolling" boil. Then you crack two eggs into a ziploc. Shake the bag really good to break the eggs apart (you can whisk the eggs in a bowl and pour them into the bags but where's the fun in that?). Then you add whatever ingredients you want. Cheese, ham, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, onions are the ingredients that we used and can say are delicious. After the bags are all shaken up put them into the pot of boiling water. Leave them in there for about 13 minutes. Then CAREFULLY take the bag out of the boiling water and open it up and roll the omelet out. Finally, enjoy because it's delicious!!

Here's some pictures:

Sleep Update

In case you were wondering, Dominick has been doing great on sleep the last few nights! He's given us 5+ hours every night for the last four nights. I'm hoping we're getting into a routine but I'm not holding my breath...yet!

Kickball Week 2

I got to play kickball today!! IT was GREAT! I've missed kickball. I know that's weird but I have. We won one game and lost one today (which is what we did last week too) so we are .500 for the year! That's not too shabby.

And Nick did AWESOME today! He got a home run! Which is rare in kickball. And exhausting. Since to hit a home run you have to hit it far and run really hard as fast as you can before the ball comes in, you get worn out really quick. It's not like softball where there's a wall and if you hit it over it, you can trot around the bases. Nope it's a lot of work.

Also, it's rare to strike out in kickball. Well, today Nick was pitching and we were playing a TOUGH team. The bases were loaded and there were two outs and Nick struck the guy out at the plate! You can only strike out if you kick 4 foul balls of you don't try to kick it and it crosses the plate. Well, he didn't kick four fouls so he struck out looking!

Like I said, Nick had a great day!

Thumb Sucker!!

Dominick has discovered his thumb...I think it's absolutely adorable. I know some people disagree. Nick and I are ok with this for right now for a few reasons. To us, it's not much different from a pacifier. I know, I know. You can take a pacifier away. But in the middle of the night, he loses his pacifier and it wakes him up and he gets upset. Now that he's sucking his thumb (and it's not that often that he does it) he can soothe himself and fall back asleep with his thumb. I want him to be able to soothe himself right now. I know many people who had thumb suckers who grew out of it. So we're letting him do it for now. When he gets older we might have to worry about it and if he doesn't grow out of it, I'll take full blame for letting him do it. But look how adorable he is!!

(Also - I know this sounds rude, but please don't leave me negative comments on how bad it is to let your baby suck their thumb. I've already had to deal with a ton of this and we've made our parenting decision on this one. Thanks!)

Uppercase Living

My mom and I went to an Uppercase Living party a LONG time ago...probably around last June or July. It was close to when I found out I was pregnant so a Long time ago. I bought a bunch of things. For those of you who don't know what Uppercase Living is, it's the decals you can put on your walls at home and they have some really cute sayings. They are very nice and they are removable too so if you change your mind you can just take them down. I got one for the dining room (it says "Friends * Food * Laughter") and one for my room (it says "All Because Two People Fell in Love") and one for Dom's room (it says "Simply Adorable"). They've been sitting at my parents house for months and months. Well today I finally took them home and I put two of them up! Here are a few pictures of my work. They were taken from my cell phone so they might be a little blurry.

I'm going to put a good picture of Dominick under the one in our room. I can't wait to get the professional pictures!

*Edited to Add: Looking at these pictures makes them look like they are really crooked...They don't look that crooked in real life! At least I hope they don't!!

A Few Updates

I've been so bad about posting, so here are a few updates.

I know I don't have any new pictures up, but that will be my next goal!

I am starting a new mural in the basement soon, so I'll be posting more about that and I'll take some pictures of it. It's quite the project!!

More again soon!

Finally Some Sleep!

Last night was an interesting night. Nick, Dom and I went to my sister and Andrew's for dinner and to just hang out. Dom slept almost the whole time. We left there around 8:00 and went home. He slept at home until around 9:30 when I decided we should try to feed him and put him to bed. Nick told me that he'd feed him for me so I could take a shower (thank goodness!) so I left him and Dom in the nursery. After my shower I went in to see how things were going and Dom was a handful. He was screaming his poor little head off. Nick was still holding him too, which was weird because usually he's happy while we are holding him and just starts screaming when we put him down. Not this time. He was very unhappy.

Finally, after we were sure he was fed, clean and not hurt in any way, we decided to let him cry. We went to bed and I turned the monitor off (we don't really need it since we share a wall with him and can hear him cry without it) and I set my alarm. I set my alarm for 3 hours after he started eating the last time so I wouldn't miss feeding him if he were hungry. When the alarm went off at 12:40 a.m. I turned the monitor back on and sure enough he was screaming. So I made a bottle and went in.

After he finished the bottle, he went back down pretty easily. He made a few noises but he was not too fussy. So I went back to bed (it was about 1:15) and set my alarm for 3:45 a.m. When that alarm went off, I turned the monitor on and all I could hear was his "sleep sound machine". So I left the monitor on and went back to bed. Dominick didn't wake up until almost 6:30 a.m. then! Holy cow - 5+ hours of sleep!! Finally!

It was amazing. I really really hope he does that again tonight and it wasn't just a tease...I'll keep you posted! ;-)

6 week check-up!!

Tuesday was my 6 week postpartum checkup with my OB. And everything is great as far as I know! My OB wasn't there. He was in Labor and Delivery so I only saw the Nurse Proctitioner. But she is nice so that was fine. I had to bring Dominick with me and everyone was in love with him. Everyone wanted to see him and 3 nurses followed me into my exam room! The nurse checked me out and everything is as it should be and my incision is healed very nicely she said.

The best part about the checkup is I got my "clearance"!! I can play kickball and go to the gym and basically do anything I want again! I'm so excited to start working out again. If you read my last post about kickball, it's obvious that I need to start to work out!

I think I'm going to have to send a picture and a thank you note to my OB. He's only an OB so I can only see him while I'm pregnant and since I don't plan on being pregnant any time soon, I hope I don't see him! He took such great care of me the whole time I was pregnant and he was with me for most of my labor but then he wasn't there for the delivery and he wasn't at either of my last two appointments. So the wonderful doctor who took such great care of Dominick while he was still growing, has never met Dominick. Crazy...

So Sore... :-(

I wrote that I played kickball on Sunday for a few minutes...what I didn't write was how incredibly sore and out of shape I am! It's amazing to me. I literally ran from home to first 3 times...and I feel like I ran a marathon. Still - 4 days later. I can't believe how sore I am. My shoulders hurt from moving my arms while running!! How pathetic is that??

The first time I was up to bat and I ran to first I thought I was going to fall over while running. Do you ever have those dreams where you need to run fast and you're trying but you just can't do it?? That was me on Sunday. Trying so hard to run and realizing that I just can't do it.

Hopefully this Sunday will be better...

Kickball!!

Some of you know this but for those who don't, Nick and I play on a kickball team every spring. For those of you who don't know this, you might think we are crazy, but the truth is kickball is the best sport ever and playing is amazing. We love it and look forward to kickball season every year. Today was our first day of the spring season.

Technically I couldn't play yet since I haven't had my 6 week post partum checkup yet and haven't gotten the "ok" to work out again. So I was going to watch and cheer. My mom came along since Nick, my sister and her husband all play too. She helped watch the kiddos while the game was going on. At the start of the game, we didn't have enough girls to play yet so I was added to the lineup. So mom had both kids by herself. They were both fine and it would have been fine except we had a mini storm right at the end of the first game. It was pouring and hailing. Luckily mom was there. My sister and mom packed up the kids while I packed up the rest of our stuff and they rushed to one of the cars. They got Cecilia in my sister's car and she stayed with Cecilia while my mom rushed Dom to my car. We got the kids in the car and my mom, Cecilia, Dom and I headed to my sister's house while the rest of the team played through the rain.

We are so lucky my mom came! We weren't going to ask her to because we thought I could handle both kids but there is NO way I could've gotten both of them out of there!

I was pretty bummed I didn't get to see the second game (because they did still play. After about 10 minutes of rain and hail, the sun came back out!) but getting Dom home and out of the rain is my first priority. I hope my mom can come again next week to help out! I can't wait to start playing again.

After the game, Angela, Andrew and Nick came back to my sister's and we hung out there for a bit. It's been a great Sunday and I'm so glad it's finally kickball season again! Go Sue!! (That's our team name, FYI!)

Smiles!

My mom took this picture of me and Dominick on Tuesday. Dominick was smiling! My dad emailed it to me this morning and of course I have to share it! Aren't we cute?!?!?

Such a sweet husband

This past week, Nick has been on a different job than normal. Just for the week. It's a lot more work. He's been coming home absolutely exhausted. I feel so bad for him as he falls asleep on the couch sitting up. And he's still doing so much for us and other people. Last night we went to his brother's new house to look at some electrical stuff. We went to dinner after that and didn't get home until almost 10. I told him to go up to bed but he insisted on sitting with me while feeding Dominick one last time before bed. He fell asleep sitting up.

This isn't the sweet part. Dominick fell asleep during that last feeding and since Nick was sleeping I let them both sleep for a little bit before waking Nick up and heading upstairs to our bedrooms. When I did wake him up, Dominick woke up and wanted to finish that last ounce in his bottle. So Nick went to bed while I finished feeding Dom and put him to bed.

Ok that wasn't the sweet part either. I'm getting to it now! After I put Dominick to bed I went into our room to get ready for bed. When I finally climbed into bed I thought Nick was sleeping. He wasn't. He asked me for a good night kiss. After I gave him a kiss he told me "thank you". I was confused. I said, "for what?". He told me, for everything. He told me that he knows it's hard work all day with a 6 week old (Yes Dom is 6 weeks old today!) and lately when he's come home he's been too tired to do much so I've literally been taking care of Dom almost alone all day long. He told me that I am a great mommy and he thinks I am doing a great job. It made me want to cry! I don't mind taking care of him all day and night by myself. I know that Nick is working right now and working very very hard for us. I want him to hold Dom when he gets home but I don't want him to feel like he has to do everything just because I had him all day.

That small bit of appreciation last night made me realize how great our relationship is and how perfect our family is now with Dominick in it.

I'm so lucky to have such a great husband and son!

Just Because

I was reading a friend's blog and I realized that I haven't blogged in a long time! So here's a quick post.

Not too much is new. We are still adjusting every day. I think that Dominick has his days and nights confused. During the day he can go for 3-5 hours in between feedings. But at night, he is wanting to eat every 2 hours. This makes things hard for me. Nick is working and I am not so we have the deal that I get up with him during the week so Nick can get as much sleep as possible and he gets up on the weekends (I try to help though since if I didn't, he'd never get to sleep in).

I don't know if feeding him more frequently during the day would help, or if Dom is really just craving attention and interaction. Today my goal is to try and feed him every 3 hours on the dot and not let him sleep longer and delay a feeding. Maybe then he'll start sleeping through the night?!

Another thing that is going on! I got a call yesterday from the company that did his newborn photos at the hospital. Apparently, with the package I bought I got a free 8 x 10 for when he's a month old. So they called yesterday and told me that they are coming by between 12:30-1:30 today to take the picture. They come to you since the baby is still so young. So yay! I get a professional picture for his one month. I'll have to go and buy some frames and start hanging pictures up around the house!

I think that's really all the news I have. I'll try to be better with posting. And I'll try to take more pictures too.
